  • I have supported the establishment of VAO as an NGO in Ghana and built it to become a well-known partner in the eye health space. I lead in the development of concept notes for proposals and contribute to the writing of proposals. My role also includes identifying and developing collaboration with other stakeholders in other to enhance VAO business interest and representing VAO in all stakeholder engagement. I also develop and implement project strategies in close collaboration with headquarters (HQ) team and staff in-country. I ensure that newly developed projects are in line with VAO and country priorities in eye health and that projects are implemented according to VAO policies and guidelines. I am also responsible for providing leadership to the team to ensure timely implementation of all activities and the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of activity implementation in addition to reporting to donors and HQ. I also manage the four in-country staff, in addition to in-country finance and assert. My role also includes planning and implementation the visit of volunteer optometrist from the UK to Ghana to support the Optometrist Departments of the University of Cape Coast and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in the training of optometrist.

  • In addition to the roles I played as a Nutrition Advisor, in this position I provided individually tailored support and supervision to the project regional offices and GHS in the regions to undertake region-specific problem identification and analysis with targeted solutions to address specific nutrition challenges according to the regional work plan. This involved identification of similar challenges across project regions and leading the sharing of best practices and lessons learnt across project regions. I was also part of the project’s M&E team that was tasked to generate evidence on the project’s performance and to provide support to other project technical staff and Regional Offices to identify process indicators and analyse results to measure progress in their technical areas and regions respectively.

  • I provided guidance and technical direction for the design and implementation of project-supported nutrition activities and ensured that they are in alignment with Ghana’s National Nutrition Policy. I also supported the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to build capacity of staff at all levels on key nutrition related issues (IYCF, CMAM, Anemia control etc). Successfully worked with the project’s Community Mobilization team to support and create an enabling environment for adoption of optimal nutrition behaviors through social mobilization. I also worked with GHS and other project technical staff to develop quality improvement approaches and strategies, which integrate nutrition into other aspects of service delivery. My other key roles included the promotion of activities aimed at integrating nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions; ensuring appropriate linkage and collaboration with other donor-funded projects and initiatives such as USAID/Resiliency in Northern Ghana and USAID/Ghana WASH for Health and participating in meetings and technical committees with GHS and other stakeholders as needed to ensure nutrition norms and guidelines reflect the latest international and local evidence and recommendations.

  • I managed a 2.7 million dollar nutrition project, which was used to strengthen the health and nutrition aspects of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP). I provided technical and managerial leadership for the implementation of the key project components (BCC, menu planning, deworming, the use of micronutrient powders and Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) within the GSFP. As part of this, I led in the development of BCC technical guidelines, materials and manuals; menu planning guidelines for the GSFP and the development of handy measures for use by caterers of the GSFP. I also trained government and partners’ staff on all the key components of the project. In also served as M&E Focal Person for the organization. I was part of a team that worked with researchers from NMIMR to conduct a Randomized Control Trial Examining the Impact of School Feeding on Nutrition, Education, Agriculture and Other Social Outcomes in Ghana. The position also gave me the opportunity to serve on a number of national technical committee.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist

  • As an M&E specialist for this project I lead a team of two other M&E staff to establish performance-based monitoring plans, with key outcome indicators for keeping track of progress of project implementation. I developed and managed operational research, including surveys and evaluations. Furthermore, led the team to establish, and manage the project database; develop and validate tools for information gathering, and provide M&E technical assistance to other domain staff and partner NGOs. I also led the M&E team to review the log frames and M&E components of the proposals from 35 local NGOs who applied for funding under the sub-grant window of the project. Fifteen of them were award grants and the M&E team worked with them finalise their log frames and provided M&E support throughout the implementation of the project. Between 2011 and 2012, served on the M&E working group of the National Malaria Control Programme.

  • I also assisted in the development of data collection tools for the Community Teaching Assistance Project, installing data collection software (4mox) on phones used for data collection and helping field workers deal with all software challenges. I led in the training of about 70 field workers and supervise field operations and managed logistic for baseline data collection in Northern Ghana. Also coordinated all activities with Research Associate and Principal Investigators’ all times and ensured incident free data collection.

  • I provided M&E support to all 43 ACDEP member projects in Northern Ghana to set up functional and effective M&E systems to track progress and success of the implementation of their projects. I also reviews the log frames and results frameworks and built the capacities of members’ staff on M&E methods and systems, and the operationalization of these. Between June 2008 and July 2009, I supervised the evaluation of all 43-member projects (progress and end of project evaluations). These projects span from food security, agriculture production and marketing, gender and reproductive health to livelihoods. In 2009 I supported the setting up of an Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Project (a health facility and school based intervention), through M&E capacity building for ACDEP member implementation partners and grantees.
